OLLI's Seniors' Prom

By Michelle Blandburg, Member, Board of Directors

Remember the fun of doing the Bunny Hop or the Chicken Dance? Do you prefer a country-flavored line dance? Would you like to liven things up with a little Latin-spiced line dancing or the Macarena? If you’re feeling frisky, come learn the Cupid Shuffle!

Where will all this fun occur? At our “Seniors’ Prom” (Special Event 1104). This upscale event, with a glamorous Hurray for OLLI-Wood theme, will be held on May 20 at the Church of the Good Shepherd from 1 to 4. The festivities will include gourmet refreshments and luscious desserts. You will be entertained with music by the renowned Tallwood Trio and DJ John Henkel. There will be a “Dance Showcase” you can join, presented by members of the “A Little Light Dancing” class, along with other surprises.

Beyond the good time that will be had, the proceeds will benefit GMU’s Office of Military Services as part of OLLI’s 25th anniversary gift. For your $35 admission, you can party with your friends, have a great time, and help a worthwhile organization. What a bargain! Don’t miss out on this unique party. Register before May 1.

Poet's Corner

Color Print

The boat’s cushions are red, plump. We lean back
into them, white shirts billowing a little, smiles real.
The foreground holds the sheen of a chrome thermos,
white paper wraps from lunch; the background
is all blueness. That was a moment anyone
might have wished to stay or willed to stay within.
But there were others like it that July. The sun
coated each day in gilt, accustomed us to brightness,
and when we woke it was always to more light sky,
an azure both flat and fathomless. When thunder came,
we opened the door to wait, eager for the first sharp drops.
