Recognizing Our OLLI Volunteers

By Sheri Siesseger, E-News Associate Editor

E-News is planning a series meant to introduce some of our volunteer leaders whose names may not be familiar to you. On page iv of every course catalog, you will find the names of members who contribute considerable time, talent and energy to making OLLI Mason work. Their efforts should be acknowledged and appreciated by all of us.

We routinely publish profiles of newly elected members of the Board of Directors. Some committee chairpersons have held their positions for several years. You likely know them. However, we have new committee chairs as well as program planning group chairs and co-chairs who have not been profiled in this newsletter. If you are one of these people, we want to recognize your work and introduce you to the members. If you receive a request from E-News to submit a profile of yourself and what you do to make OLLI Mason a better place, please consider it seriously.

How To Be Happy

I wish I could be happier, I often overhear.
I close my eyes and clamp my tongue, and swiftly close my ear.
Be careful what you wish for, be sure of what you mean;
So many wish they could un-wish the folly of their dream.

"I wish I could be famous" said the paparazzi-dodgers
As they turn up collars, don dark shades and sidle like old codgers.
"I wish I'd never won!" declare the Powerball-cursed winners,
Aware they never will again distinguish saints from sinners.

Be happy with your simple lot. A little is enough.
Excess is overblown--give me a name, it's not too tough
To name the price he had to pay. And I would bet they would
Rescind it all without regret if only they just could.

A chaise, the whisper of a breeze, the comfort of the dark
I'd park
For all eternity with you just at my side.
It's paradise.
