Friends of OLLI (FOLLI) Fundraising Project

By Lesley Bubenhofer, Development Committee Chair

Got weighty coins in your pockets or purses? Why not unload and help FOLLI, too? A "FOLLI Donation Jar" now resides in Tallwood's Social Room. When you stop by for coffee and goodies, please also drop in the FOLLI jar some of that loose change. It is surprising how quickly pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters (dollar bills are welcome, too) can add up.

All donated monies fund growing membership needs, scholarships for Mason students, Fall for the Book, and many other enhancements that are of significant value to our members, our OLLI, and our community.

Your generosity certainly can and does make a difference in what can be accomplished. Thank you!

Off to a Flying Start

By Alice Slayton Clark, Communications/Program Associate

The first two weeks of OLLI’s fall term have ended with many members signed up for some of the terrific classes offered. But peoples' schedules change and there may be opportunities to still register for those OLLI classes you considered earlier. There are several classes that begin the second half of the fall term.

Here are examples of some of the great offerings with spaces still available:

- L905 Italian Trip Tales

- L659 ISIS Defectors: Inside Stories of the Terrorist Organization

- R414 Two by Virginia Woolf

- R607 Hunting the Divine Fox: God’s Footprints in Literature’s Great Character

Two courses associated with Fall for the Books:
- 951 Investigating the Self Through Poetry, Science, and History
- 953 Coxey's Crusade for Jobs: Unemployment in the Gilded Age

Glance through your fall catalog again and if there’s a class or a special event you would like to attend, go to the OLLI webpage and register if space is available or contact the OLLI office and we’ll help you. This fall term has some terrific classes and events so don’t get left out.

Time's Up

How do you know your time is up; it's time to walk off stage?
When you can count the grains of sand remaining in the glass?
I think that I have done it all, though 'all' seems not enough.

"But ever at my back I hear
Time's wing'ed chariot hurrying near"*
Seemed laughably remote in youth;
Today seems such a common truth.

Tomorrow once was far remote
When I was but a youth.
Tomorrow's now but hours away
A most distressing truth.

When I wave, "See you tomorrow!"
It's a hope spoken in sorrow.

Manuel Pablo
